A bill for an act
relating to human services; modifying the Board on Aging Native American elders
coordinator position; appropriating money; amending Minnesota Statutes 2022,
section 256.975, subdivision 6.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2022, section 256.975, subdivision 6, is amended to read:


Subd. 6.

new text begin (1) "Native American elder" means an individual enrolled in a federally recognized
Tribe and identified as an elder according to the requirements of the individual's home Tribe;
and

new text begin (2) "Tribal government" means representatives of each of the 11 federally recognized
Native American Tribes located wholly or partially within the boundaries of the state of
Minnesota.

Sec. 2. new text begin APPROPRIATION; NATIVE AMERICAN ELDER COORDINATOR.

new text begin $300,000 in fiscal year 2024 and $300,000 in fiscal year 2025 are appropriated from the
general fund to the commissioner of human services for the Native American elder
coordinator position under Minnesota Statutes, section 256.975, subdivision 6.
