A bill for an act
relating to public safety; enhancing criminal penalty for fleeing or attempting to
flee peace officer in stolen motor vehicle; amending Minnesota Statutes 2020,
section 609.487, subdivision 3.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 609.487, subdivision 3, is amended to read:


Subd. 3.

Fleeing officer; motor vehicle.

Whoever deleted text begin by means of a motor vehicledeleted text end flees
or attempts to flee a peace officer who is acting in the lawful discharge of an official duty,
and the perpetrator knows or should reasonably know the same to be a peace officer, is
guilty of a felony and may be sentenced new text begin as follows:

new text begin (1) if fleeing in a motor vehicle, new text end to imprisonment for not more than three years and one
day or to payment of a fine of not more than $5,000, or bothdeleted text begin .deleted text end new text begin ; or

to payment of a fine of not more than $10,000, or both.
