A bill for an act
relating to state government; suspending the salary of the governor and legislators
when certain orders are issued restricting the operation or conduct of private
business; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 12.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [12.235] SALARIES OF GOVERNOR AND LEGISLATORS SUSPENDED
CONCURRENT WITH ORDERS IMPACTING PRIVATE BUSINESS.

new text begin Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the salaries of the governor and state legislators
do not apply or accrue and must not be paid during any period in which an order or rule
issued under the authority of a declared peacetime emergency is in effect that restricts the
operation or conduct of private business in this state. The salaries may be reinstated upon
recision or termination of the order. Back pay or other supplemental compensation to cover
the period during which the salaries were suspended must not be paid.
