A bill for an act
relating to human services; directing the commissioner to make recommendations
for paperwork reduction relating to out-of-home placement of American Indian
children.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

OUT-OF-HOME PLACEMENT OF AMERICAN INDIAN CHILDREN.

new text begin The commissioner of human services, in partnership with counties, local social services
agencies, tribal social services agencies, private child-placing agencies, and other
stakeholders, shall develop a plan, proposed timeline, and summary of necessary resources
to streamline and minimize required paperwork for child protection cases and out-of-home
placements that are subject to the requirements of the federal Indian Child Welfare Act and
the Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act. The plan shall include procedures to ensure
that continued input from all stakeholders is considered and that the planned improvements
maximize benefits and utility for children in placement, foster care providers, tribes, counties,
and private child-placing agencies.
