A bill for an act
relating to education finance; appropriating money for a grant to an American
Indian youth enrichment program.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; AMERICAN INDIAN YOUTH ENRICHMENT
PROGRAM.

new text begin $100,000 in fiscal year 2020 and $100,000 in fiscal year 2021 are appropriated from the
general fund to the commissioner of education for a grant to an organization that provides
indigenous cultural, educational, and wellness activities after school and in the summer to
school-age children. Grant funds may be used for activities that allow youth to: (1) learn
from indigenous leaders; (2) gain awareness of their heritage and history; (3) receive
culturally relevant educational support that has long-term impact; (4) learn about native
foods and cooking; or (5) learn to play lacrosse and other traditional games.
