A bill for an act
relating to education; modifying the license exemption for technical education
instructors; amending Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 122A.30.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 122A.30, is amended to read:


122A.30 EXEMPTION FOR CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION
INSTRUCTORS.

deleted text begin (a)deleted text end Notwithstanding section 122A.15, subdivision 1, and upon approval of the local
employer school board, a person who teaches in a deleted text begin part-timedeleted text end vocational or career and technical
education programnew text begin and demonstrates occupational competency based on work experience
in business or industry
new text end is exempt from a license requirement. Nothing in this section shall
exclude licensed career and technical educators from the definition of "teacher" in section
122A.40, 122A.41, or 179A.03.

deleted text begin (b) This section expires June 30, 2020. After this section expires, persons who teach in
a part-time vocational or career and technical education program may apply for a teaching
license provided in sections 122A.18 to 122A.184.
