A bill for an act
relating to local government; extending the response time residency requirement
for Richfield firefighters; amending Laws 2010, chapter 207, section 1.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Laws 2010, chapter 207, section 1, is amended to read:


Section 1. RICHFIELD FIREFIGHTERS; LIMITED RESPONSE TIME
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT.

(a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 415.16, subdivision 2, the city of
Richfield may impose a response time residency requirement upon firefighters under
the following conditions:

(1) the residency requirement may not require a response time that is less than ten
minutes;

(2) the residency requirement must only apply to firefighters hired after the effective
date of the residency requirement; and

(3) the residency requirement must only apply during the first ten years of
employment or until this section expires, whichever is earlier.

(b) This section expires deleted text begin seven years from the effective datedeleted text end new text begin December 31, 2026new text end .
