A bill for an act
relating to transportation; providing for roundabout design.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin ROUNDABOUTS DESIGN.

new text begin (a) The commissioner of transportation shall, as part of the next regular update of
appropriate design and highway construction manuals, develop specifications or standards
on the design of roundabouts. The specifications or standards must include consideration
of the suitability of roundabout designs for commercial motor vehicles, as defined in
Minnesota Statutes, section 169.011, subdivision 16, and disabled persons as defined
by Minnesota Statutes, section 256.481.

new text begin (b) In developing the specifications or standards, the commissioner shall consult
with:

new text begin (1) the Minnesota Trucking Association;
new text end

new text begin (2) representatives, as identified by the commissioner, of persons who regularly
obtain oversize or overweight permits under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 169, and are
reasonably likely to travel on routes that would include a roundabout; and

new text begin (3) the Council on Disability established under Minnesota Statutes, section 256.482.

new text begin (c) The commissioner shall distribute the specifications or standards, or a similar
advisory guidance document, to local road authorities.
