A bill for an act
relating to motor vehicles; modifying provisions
relating to motor vehicle registration; amending
Minnesota Statutes 2004, sections 168.011, subdivision
3, by adding subdivisions; 168.091, subdivision 1.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 168.011,
subdivision 3, is amended to read:

Subd. 3.

Highway.

Sec. 2.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 168.011, is
amended by adding a subdivision to read:

commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Sec. 3.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 168.011, is
amended by adding a subdivision to read:

new text begin "Person" has the meaning given in
section 168A.011, subdivision 14.

Sec. 4.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 168.011, is
amended by adding a subdivision to read:

new text begin "State" means a state of the United
States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the United States
Virgin Islands, or any territory or insular possession subject
to the jurisdiction of the United States.

Sec. 5.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 168.011, is
amended by adding a subdivision to read:

section 168A.011, subdivision 24.

Sec. 6.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 168.091,
subdivision 1, is amended to read:

Subdivision 1.

Nonresident buyer.

new text begin (a) new text end Upon payment of a
fee of $1, the deleted text begin registrar deleted text end new text begin commissioner new text end may issue a permit to a
nonresident purchasing a deleted text begin new or used motor deleted text end vehicle in this state

deputy registrar of motor vehicles, the $1 fee is waived.

inside rear window of the vehicle new text begin or, if not practicable, where
it is plainly visible to law enforcement new text end . Each deleted text begin such
