  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crimes; prohibiting interfering with 
  1.3             emergency communications; prescribing penalties; 
  1.4             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.5             chapter 609. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [609.776] [INTERFERENCE WITH EMERGENCY 
  1.8   COMMUNICATIONS.] 
  1.9      Whoever, without prior authorization, broadcasts or 
  1.10  transmits on, disrupts, blocks, or cross-patches another 
  1.11  frequency onto a law enforcement, firefighting, emergency 
  1.12  medical services, emergency radio frequency or channel, any 
  1.13  assigned or alternate emergency frequency or channel, or an 
  1.14  official cellular telephone communication of a law enforcement 
  1.15  agency, a fire department, or emergency medical services 
  1.16  provider, knowing, or having reason to know that the act 
  1.17  obstructs, prevents, or misdirects official law enforcement, 
  1.18  firefighting, or emergency medical services communications, is 
  1.19  guilty of a felony and may be sentenced to imprisonment for not 
  1.20  more than five years, to payment of a $10,000 fine, or both. 
  1.21     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.22     Section 1 is effective August 1, 2003, and applies to 
  1.23  crimes committed on or after that date.
