  1.1                             A resolution
  1.2             memorializing the governor to declare a day of prayer 
  1.3             for peace and for our armed forces and civilians who 
  1.4             may suffer injury; expressing support for our troops 
  1.5             and our Commander in Chief in the war against the 
  1.6             Iraqi regime; urging the President to work for peace 
  1.7             through international cooperation. 
  1.8      
  1.9      WHEREAS, the United States and other nations have sought a 
  1.10  peaceful means to disarm the Iraqi regime without war; and 
  1.11     WHEREAS, the citizens of Minnesota deeply appreciate the 
  1.12  great personal sacrifices being made by our military personnel 
  1.13  in the Middle East and by their families and loved ones back 
  1.14  home; and 
  1.15     WHEREAS, more than 2,500 of our loved ones - our brothers 
  1.16  and sisters, our mothers and fathers, our friends and our 
  1.17  neighbors - have been called to arms by our Commander in Chief 
  1.18  from National Guard facilities in Duluth, Minneapolis, Camp 
  1.19  Ripley, and Roseville; and 
  1.20     WHEREAS, the citizens of Minnesota have great pride in the 
  1.21  men and women of the United States Armed Forces and support them 
  1.22  in their efforts; NOW, THEREFORE, 
  1.23     BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of 
  1.24  Minnesota, on behalf of all citizens of this state, that we do 
  1.25  unequivocally support our troops and stand behind our Commander 
  1.26  in Chief as they act upon their sworn duty to protect the lives 
  2.1   of Americans from threats at home and abroad. 
  2.2      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of the State of 
  2.3   Minnesota urges federal, state, and local government agencies, 
  2.4   religious institutions, employers, schools, charitable 
  2.5   organizations, and all of our citizens to do all that is humanly 
  2.6   possible to assist the families and loved ones of our Armed 
  2.7   Forces members with all necessary and available support. 
  2.8      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of the State of 
  2.9   Minnesota requests the Governor to declare a day of prayer for 
  2.10  peace in which all citizens are urged to keep armed forces 
  2.11  personnel and all innocent civilians abroad and at home who may 
  2.12  suffer injury uppermost in their thoughts and prayers. 
  2.13     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature urges the 
  2.14  President to work for peace and stability throughout the Middle 
  2.15  East and to build international cooperation toward constructive 
  2.16  and effective support for those in Iraq who offer genuine 
  2.17  democratic alternatives. 
  2.18     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the 
  2.19  State of Minnesota is directed to prepare copies of this 
  2.20  memorial and transmit them to the President and Vice-President 
  2.21  of the United States, the President and the Secretary of the 
  2.22  United States Senate, the Speaker and the Clerk of the United 
  2.23  States House of Representatives, and Minnesota's Senators and 
  2.24  Representatives in Congress.
