  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to traffic regulations; exempting certain 
  1.3             towed implements of husbandry from requirement to 
  1.4             display tail lamps; making clarifying changes; 
  1.5             amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 169.50, 
  1.6             subdivision 1.  
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 169.50, 
  1.9   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.10     Subdivision 1.  [REQUIREMENTS; EXCEPTION.] (a) Every motor 
  1.11  vehicle and every vehicle which that is being drawn at the end 
  1.12  of a train of vehicles shall must be equipped with at least one 
  1.13  tail lamp, exhibiting a red light plainly visible from a 
  1.14  distance of 500 feet to the rear.  And further, 
  1.15     (b) Every such above-mentioned motor vehicle, other than a 
  1.16  truck-tractor, and every vehicle that is being drawn at the end 
  1.17  of a train of vehicles, registered in this state and 
  1.18  manufactured or assembled after January 1, 1960 the effective 
  1.19  date of this act, shall must be equipped with at least two tail 
  1.20  lamps mounted on the rear, and on the same level and as widely 
  1.21  spaced laterally as practicable, which,.  When lighted as herein 
  1.22  required, shall the tail lamps must comply with the provisions 
  1.23  of this section.  
  1.24     (c) An implement of husbandry being towed by a motor 
  1.25  vehicle at a speed of not more than 30 miles per hour, 
  1.26  displaying a slow-moving vehicle emblem, and complying with 
  2.1   section 169.55, subdivision 2, clause (4), is not subject to the 
  2.2   requirements of this section. 
  2.3      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.4      Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
