A bill for an act
relating to public safety; appropriating money for fire department personal
protective equipment grants.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; FIRE DEPARTMENT PERSONAL PROTECTIVE
EQUIPMENT GRANTS.

new text begin $10,000,000 in fiscal year 2023 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of public safety for grants to fire departments for the reimbursement of costs incurred in
the purchase of personal protective equipment, including but not limited to fire coats, pants,
flak vests, helmets, and boots. The commissioner shall award the grants pursuant to the
recommendations of the Fire Service Advisory Committee established under Minnesota
Statutes, section 299F.012, subdivision 2. A grant awarded under this section must include
a local match based on the population of an applicant fire department's coverage area, as
determined by the commissioner. This is a onetime appropriation.
