relating to workforce development; appropriating money for a grant to Somali
American Women Action Center.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin $250,000 in fiscal year 2019 is appropriated from the workforce development fund to
the commissioner of employment and economic development for a grant to the Somali
American Women Action Center to provide wholistic community-based services tailored
toward Somali American women and young mothers, for women 18 to 28 years of age who
are facing multiple barriers to employment. The grant must be used to support job skills
and create pathways to future private and public employment sectors. Services include job
training, including sewing training; housing navigations; entrepreneurship development;
health care; mental health outreach; and workforce preparations. This is a onetime
appropriation and is available until June 30, 2020.
