A bill for an act
relating to education; requiring literacy incentive aid to be used for certain purposes;
amending Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 124D.98, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 124D.98, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin Literacy incentive aid must be used
by the school to provide Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS)
training. A licensed elementary school teacher who has not already completed LETRS
training must participate in the training, to the extent aid is available. If additional aid is
available after all licensed elementary school teachers in a school have completed LETRS
training, the remaining aid must be used for purposes related to increasing literacy
proficiency.
