  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to railroads; appropriating money for the 
  1.3             Northstar commuter rail line. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1. [NORTHSTAR COMMUTER RAIL LINE; APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.6      $90,000,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.7   commissioner of transportation for planning, design, 
  1.8   engineering, real property acquisition, right-of-way leasing, 
  1.9   construction, and equipment of the Northstar commuter rail line 
  1.10  between the city of Rice and downtown Minneapolis.  This 
  1.11  appropriation is contingent on the commissioner securing at 
  1.12  least $111,000,000 in funding for this project from the federal 
  1.13  government and at least $22,000,000 in funding for this project 
  1.14  from local and regional sources.  This appropriation is 
  1.15  available until spent. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.17     Section 1 is effective July 1, 2001.
