  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; providing certain survivor 
  1.3             benefits under the public employees retirement 
  1.4             association police and fire fund. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [SURVIVOR BENEFITS.] 
  1.7      Notwithstanding any provision of Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.8   section 353.657, subdivision 1, requiring a specified period of 
  1.9   marriage to obtain survivor benefits, the surviving spouse of a 
  1.10  firefighter who was born on March 11, 1969, and who died in an 
  1.11  accident on February 6, 2000, is entitled to survivor benefits 
  1.12  provided in section 353.657. 
  1.13     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.14     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment 
  1.15  and applies retroactively to the surviving spouse of a person 
  1.16  who died on or after February 1, 2000.
