  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; expanding rights to extended 
  1.3             leaves of absence to certain teachers; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 122A.46, subdivision 
  1.5             1, and by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 122A.46, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [TEACHERS DEFINED.] As used in this 
  1.10  section, the term "teachers" shall have the meaning given it in 
  1.11  section 122A.15, subdivision 1.  The term "teachers" shall also 
  1.12  include any teacher in the classifications included in the 
  1.13  professional state residential instructional unit, including the 
  1.14  arts education teacher classification, pursuant to section 
  1.15  179A.10, subdivision 2, clause (16). 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 122A.46, is 
  1.17  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.18     Subd. 1a.  [APPOINTING AUTHORITY.] For purposes of teachers 
  1.19  included in the professional state residential instructional 
  1.20  unit, the term "school board" shall include the appointing 
  1.21  authority as defined in section 43A.02, subdivision 5. 
  1.22     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.23     Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day following final 
  1.24  enactment.
