relating to game and fish; requiring negotiation of safe harvest levels for walleye;
requiring a report.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin The commissioner of natural resources must negotiate with the eight Ojibwe bands
represented on the 1837 Ceded Territory Fisheries Technical Committee to no longer count
hooking mortality when determining whether the state has reached its safe harvest level for
walleye.

Sec. 2. new text begin MILLE LACS WALLEYE SIZE LIMITS; REPORT.

new text begin By January 15, 2021, the commissioner of natural resources must submit a report to the
chairs and ranking minority members of the house of representatives and senate committees
and divisions with jurisdiction over environment and natural resources with a plan for
meeting the state's safe harvest level for walleye agreed to by the 1837 Ceded Territory
Fisheries Technical Committee. The plan must allow state anglers to keep walleye rather
than rely on slot limits and other methods that require catch and release.
