  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; prohibiting weight 
  1.3             training equipment in state correctional facilities; 
  1.4             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.5             chapter 243. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [243.553] [WEIGHT TRAINING EQUIPMENT BANNED IN 
  1.8   STATE PRISONS.] 
  1.9      (a) By August 1, 2000, the commissioner shall remove all 
  1.10  weight training equipment from every state correctional facility.
  1.11     (b) The possession of weight training equipment by an 
  1.12  inmate of a state correctional facility on or after August 1, 
  1.13  2000, shall be considered contraband. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.15     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
