1.1A resolution
1.2urging the federal government to provide funding so the state can reimburse medical
1.3providers for performing routine procedures and tests on certain veterans.
1.4WHEREAS, Minnesota veterans authorized to have procedures and tests performed at
1.5federally funded medical facilities often live 50 or more miles from the nearest such facility; and
1.6WHEREAS, many Minnesota veterans need assistance from others to travel to federally
1.7funded medical facilities; and
1.8WHEREAS, for those veterans and their helpers and for those who can travel without
1.9assistance, hours are spent in increasingly expensive travel to have routine procedures and tests
1.10performed; and
1.11WHEREAS, those routine procedures and tests could be performed more easily and
1.12efficiently closer to home at little or no cost to the federal government if the medical providers
1.13were reimbursed; NOW, THEREFORE,
1.14BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota that it urges, the President
1.15and the Congress of the United States to provide additional funding to the state of Minnesota so
1.16that the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs can reimburse medical providers for routine
1.17medical procedures and tests provided to a veteran if the veteran: (1) is authorized to receive the
1.18procedures and tests at a federally funded facility; and (2) the veteran's residence is located more
1.19than 50 miles from the location where the federally funded medical care will be provided.
1.20BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the State of Minnesota is
1.21directed to prepare copies of this memorial resolution and transmit them to the President of
1.22the United States, the President and the Secretary of the United States Senate, the Speaker and
2.1the Clerk of the United States House of Representatives, the chair of the Senate Committee on
2.2Veterans' Affairs, the chair of the House of Representatives Committee on Veterans' Affairs, and
2.3Minnesota's Senators and Representatives in Congress.
