  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to taxation; authorizing a joint recreation 
  1.3             board tax in the territory of independent school 
  1.4             district No. 2154, Eveleth-Gilbert. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [EVELETH-GILBERT JOINT RECREATION BOARD TAX.] 
  1.7      The Eveleth-Gilbert joint recreation board may levy a tax 
  1.8   on the taxable property situated in the territory of independent 
  1.9   school district No. 2154, Eveleth-Gilbert, in accordance with 
  1.10  this act.  Property in territory in the school district may be 
  1.11  made subject to the tax permitted by this act by the agreement 
  1.12  of the governing body or town board of the city or town where it 
  1.13  is located.  The agreement may be by resolution of a governing 
  1.14  body or town board or by a joint powers agreement pursuant to 
  1.15  Minnesota Statutes, section 471.59.  If levied, the tax is in 
  1.16  addition to all other taxes on the property subject to it 
  1.17  permitted to be levied for park and recreation purposes by the 
  1.18  cities and towns other than for the support of the joint 
  1.19  recreation board.  It shall be disregarded in the calculation of 
  1.20  all other mill rate or per capita tax levy limitations imposed 
  1.21  by charter upon them.  A city or town may withdraw its agreement 
  1.22  to future taxes by notice to the recreation board and the county 
  1.23  auditor unless provided otherwise by a joint powers agreement.  
  1.24  The tax shall be collected by the St. Louis county auditor and 
  1.25  treasurer and paid directly to the Eveleth-Gilbert joint 
  2.1   recreation board.  This act applies in the cities of Eveleth and 
  2.2   Gilbert and in the town of Fayal, all in St. Louis county.
