  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to data practices; making conforming changes 
  1.3             for the data practices recodification enacted under 
  1.4             Laws 1999, chapter 227, section 22; amending Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes, section 13.01, by adding subdivisions. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 13.01, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 4.  [HEADNOTES.] The headnotes printed in boldface 
  1.10  type before paragraphs in this chapter are mere catchwords to 
  1.11  indicate the content of a paragraph and are not part of the 
  1.12  statute. 
  1.13     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 13.01, is amended 
  1.14  by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.15     Subd. 5.  [PROVISIONS CODED IN OTHER CHAPTERS.] The 
  1.16  sections referenced in this chapter that are codified outside 
  1.17  this chapter, classify government data as other than public, 
  1.18  place restrictions on access to government data, or involve data 
  1.19  sharing.  Those sections are governed by the definitions and 
  1.20  general provisions in sections 13.01 to 13.07 and the remedies 
  1.21  and penalties provided in sections 13.08 and 13.09, except: 
  1.22     (1) for records of the judiciary, as provided in section 
  1.23  13.90; or 
  1.24     (2) as specifically provided otherwise by law.
