  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to probate; providing for a study of the 
  1.3             guardianship and conservatorship system.  
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [GUARDIANSHIP AND CONSERVATORSHIP STUDY.] 
  1.6      The commissioner of human services shall establish an 
  1.7   advisory committee to study and make recommendations on means of 
  1.8   improving the guardianship and conservatorship system.  The 
  1.9   advisory committee must include advocates for vulnerable adults 
  1.10  and other groups of individuals who may be wards or 
  1.11  conservatees, judges and attorneys who handle guardianship 
  1.12  issues, professional guardians and conservators, county social 
  1.13  service agencies, social workers, and other interested persons.  
  1.14  The commissioner shall report to the legislature by January 15, 
  1.15  2001, with the results of the study and recommendations for 
  1.16  improvements in the legal and social service systems.
