A bill for an act
relating to higher education; requiring a common course numbering system for
the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin MINNESOTA STATE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES; COMMON
COURSE NUMBERING.

new text begin The Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities must
develop and implement a common course numbering system for core curriculum at the
freshman and sophomore levels. The purpose of the common course numbering system is
to facilitate the transfer of academic coursework between colleges and universities and
to help students better plan their studies and evaluate transfer options. The board must
report to the committees of the legislature responsible for higher education finance on the
common course numbering system by February 1, 2009, including a plan to implement
the system.
