  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to public safety; authorizing commissioner of 
  1.3             public safety to award public safety grants; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 299A.01, subdivision 
  1.5             2. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 299A.01, 
  1.8   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 2.  [DUTIES OF COMMISSIONER.] The duties of the 
  1.10  commissioner shall include the following: 
  1.11     (a) the coordination, development and maintenance of 
  1.12  services contracts with existing state departments and agencies 
  1.13  assuring the efficient and economic use of advanced business 
  1.14  machinery including computers; 
  1.15     (b) the execution of contracts and agreements with existing 
  1.16  state departments for the maintenance and servicing of vehicles 
  1.17  and communications equipment, and the use of related buildings 
  1.18  and grounds; 
  1.19     (c) the development of integrated fiscal services for all 
  1.20  divisions, and the preparation of an integrated budget for the 
  1.21  department; 
  1.22     (d) the publication and award of grant contracts with state 
  1.23  agencies, local units of government, and other entities for 
  1.24  programs that will benefit the safety of the public; and 
  1.25     (e) the establishment of a planning bureau within the 
  2.1   department.
