  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; restricting the participation 
  1.3             of open enrollment students in athletic activities for 
  1.4             one school year; amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, 
  1.5             section 124D.03, by adding a subdivision.  
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 124D.03, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 10a.  [PARTICIPATION IN ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES.] A 
  1.10  student in the ninth, tenth, 11th, or 12th grade who enrolls in 
  1.11  a nonresident district under this section is prohibited from 
  1.12  participating in the extracurricular athletic activities of the 
  1.13  nonresident district for 365 days from the date the student 
  1.14  enrolls in the nonresident district. 
  1.15     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective the day 
  1.16  following final enactment and applies to students who enroll in 
  1.17  a nonresident district under this section for the 2002-2003 
  1.18  school year and later.
