A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; establishing Lake Vermilion State Park; amending
Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 85.012, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 85.012, is amended by adding a
subdivision to read:

boundaries of Lake Vermilion State Park:

in Section 13, Township 62 North, Range 15 West;

new text begin (2) Government Lots 6 and 8, Section 14, Township 62 North, Range 15 West;

new text begin (3) Government Lots 1 and 7 and the Northeast Quarter of the Southeast Quarter, all
in Section 22, Township 62 North, Range 15 West;

Sec. 3. new text begin ACQUISITION; LAKE VERMILION STATE PARK.
new text end

new text begin The commissioner of natural resources may acquire by gift or purchase the lands
for Lake Vermilion State Park. Minnesota Statutes, section 84.0272, subdivision 1, does
not apply to a purchase, except for the requirement that the lands be appraised. Prior to
the purchase of any land within the boundaries described, the state must receive from St.
Louis County a resolution supporting the purchase. Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes,
section 92.45, or any other law to the contrary, within 24 months of the acquisition of the
state park established in section 2, the state shall transfer to St. Louis County or sell at
public auction state lands within St. Louis County of equal ad valorem value to the lands
described to be purchased in section 2. The state lands transferred or sold at auction must
not be located in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and may include school trust fund
lands as defined in Minnesota Statutes, section 92.025. The state lands transferred or sold
at auction must include shoreland footage equaling the shoreland footage described in
section 2, including any island shorelands.

new text begin Sections 1 and 2 are effective upon acquisition by the state of all lands described in
section 2, subdivision 3. Section 3 is effective the day following final enactment.
