  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to highways; prohibiting placement of 
  1.3             barriers on roads more than 12 hours before initiation 
  1.4             of improvement work; amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, 
  1.5             section 160.16, subdivision 3. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 160.16, 
  1.8   subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 3.  [BARRICADES.] The road authorities may also 
  1.10  provide, by contract or otherwise, for the erection of 
  1.11  barricades, fences or other obstructions so as to prevent 
  1.12  traffic from entering any impassable section of road or a 
  1.13  section closed to public travel.  A road authority or contractor 
  1.14  with a road authority may not place barricades, fences, or other 
  1.15  obstructions, including barrels and cones, on a road to be 
  1.16  improved, more than 12 hours prior to the initiation of the 
  1.17  improvement work.
