A bill for an act
relating to public safety; directing the Sentencing Guidelines Commission to modify
the sentencing grids to include half points.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin SENTENCING GUIDELINES CUSTODY STATUS MODIFICATION.

new text begin The Sentencing Guidelines Commission shall alter the sentencing grids to establish
presumptive sentences for criminal history scores that contain partial points. Between each
pair of neighboring columns on the existing sentencing grids, the Sentencing Guidelines
Commission shall add a new column for criminal history scores ending in a half point. The
presumptive duration of each new cell must be the average of the presumptive durations of
its neighboring whole-point cells, rounded down. The presumptive disposition must be that
of its neighboring cell to the left. Presumptive ranges shall be calculated consistent with
current methodology.
