  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to appropriations; appropriating money for 
  1.3             Heritage Halls in Owatonna. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [CHILDREN, FAMILIES, AND LEARNING.] 
  1.6      (a) $225,000 is appropriated from the general fund for 
  1.7   fiscal year 2001 to the commissioner of children, families, and 
  1.8   learning.  
  1.9      (b) Of the amount in paragraph (a), $200,000 is to:  
  1.10     (1) make educational opportunities available to students in 
  1.11  their own classrooms; 
  1.12     (2) publicize and increase student use of museum 
  1.13  interactive displays and exhibits; and 
  1.14     (3) coordinate learning experiences with state high school 
  1.15  graduation rule requirements. 
  1.16     (c) Of the amount in paragraph (a), $25,000 is to assist in 
  1.17  the operation of summer day camp programs that communicate the 
  1.18  excitement and adventure of innovative designs and discoveries 
  1.19  in the areas of aerospace, transportation, and agriculture. 
  1.20     Sec. 2.  [TRADE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.] 
  1.21     $300,000 is appropriated from the general fund for fiscal 
  1.22  year 2001 to the commissioner of trade and economic development 
  1.23  for grants to Heritage Halls in Owatonna to:  
  1.24     (1) fund the transition costs of the transfer of ownership 
  2.1   to a nonprofit foundation that will manage the property for the 
  2.2   use of Heritage Halls; 
  2.3      (2) fund the transition costs for the management and board 
  2.4   structure of Heritage Halls Transportation Museum to better 
  2.5   serve its mission of education and outreach; and 
  2.6      (3) encourage donations to Heritage Halls, a nonprofit 
  2.7   organization, for the purpose of administrative and ownership 
  2.8   transition, and for the educational purposes of Heritage Halls. 
  2.9      This appropriation does not cancel.  $150,000 shall be 
  2.10  distributed in fiscal year 2001, $100,000 in fiscal year 2002, 
  2.11  and $50,000 in fiscal year 2003.  This appropriation is 
  2.12  available for each year only to the extent that $50,000 in 
  2.13  fiscal year 2001, $100,000 in fiscal year 2002, and $150,000 are 
  2.14  made available from nonstate donors.
