A bill for an act
relating to retirement; correctional state employees retirement plan;
recategorizing past corrections security caseworker employment as covered
correctional service; authorizing past service credit transfer from the general
state employees retirement plan.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin MSRS-CORRECTIONAL; TRANSFER OF CREDIT FOR PRIOR
CORRECTIONS SECURITY CASEWORKER EMPLOYMENT.

new text begin (a) An eligible state employee described in paragraph (b) may elect to have allowable
service credit for the period of employment indicated in paragraph (c) transferred from the
general state employees retirement plan of the Minnesota State Retirement System to the
correctional state employees retirement plan of the Minnesota State Retirement System
under Minnesota Statutes, section 352.955, subdivisions 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

new text begin (b) An eligible state employee is a person who began employment as:

new text begin (1) a trainee-corrections officer on March 9, 1987;
new text end

new text begin (2) a corrections officer 1 on May 6, 1987;
new text end

new text begin (3) a corrections officer 2 on November 11, 1987;
new text end

new text begin (4) a corrections security caseworker on September 9, 1990;
new text end

new text begin (5) a corrections security caseworker career on December 13, 1995; and
new text end

new text begin (6) a corrections agent career on January 10, 1996.

new text begin (c) The period of employment by the Department of Corrections eligible for transfer
is from September 9, 1990, to January 9, 1996.

new text begin (d) The transfer election must be made in writing and must be accompanied by
whatever relevant documentation is required by the executive director of the Minnesota
State Retirement System.

new text begin (e) Authority to make an election under this section expires on July 1, 2009, or the
day that the eligible state employee terminates state employment, whichever is earlier.
