  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to local government; modifying requirements 
  1.3             for payment of expenses for petitions for special 
  1.4             purpose districts; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, 
  1.5             section 115.22. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 115.22, is 
  1.8   amended to read: 
  1.9      115.22 [PETITIONERS TO PAY EXPENSES.] 
  1.10     Expenses of the preparation and submission of petitions, or 
  1.11  studies of possible annexation into an existing district, in 
  1.12  proceedings under sections 115.19 to 115.21 shall be paid by the 
  1.13  petitioners, or those citizens in the area included in a 
  1.14  possible annexation if at least 51 percent of the citizens sign 
  1.15  a resolution requesting an annexation study.  Expenses of 
  1.16  hearings therein shall be paid out of any available funds 
  1.17  appropriated for the agency.
