A bill for an act
relating to motor vehicles; authorizing issuance of special retired emergency
medical technician license plates; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota
Statutes, chapter 168.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin General requirements; fees. new text end

new text begin (a) The commissioner shall issue a set
of special plates bearing the inscription "EMT RETIRED" to an applicant who:

new text begin (1) has retired as an emergency medical technician certified under section 144E.28
and presents proof of former certification;

new text begin (2) is a registered owner of a passenger automobile, pickup truck, van, or
self-propelled recreational vehicle;
new text end

new text begin (3) pays the registration tax required by law;
new text end

new text begin (4) pays a fee of $10 for each set of two plates, and any other fee or surcharge
required by this chapter; and
new text end

new text begin (5) complies with this chapter and rules governing the registration of motor vehicles
and licensing of drivers.

new text begin (b) The additional fee of $10 is payable at the time of initial application for the
special plates and when the plates must be replaced or renewed. An applicant must not
be issued more than two sets of special plates for motor vehicles listed in paragraph (a)
and registered to the applicant.

new text begin The commissioner of veterans affairs, after consultation with the
commissioner of health, shall design the special plates.

new text begin Despite section 168.12 or other law to the
contrary, on payment of a fee of $5, the special plates issued under subdivision 1, may
be transferred by the owner to another passenger automobile, pickup truck, van, or
self-propelled recreational vehicle registered to the person to whom the plates were issued.
