  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to corrections; requiring counties and the 
  1.3             department of corrections to share the per diem cost 
  1.4             of housing juveniles committed to the commissioner of 
  1.5             corrections; amending Minnesota Statutes 1999 
  1.6             Supplement, section 242.192. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1999 Supplement, section 
  1.9   242.192, is amended to read: 
  1.10     242.192 [CHARGES TO COUNTIES.] 
  1.11     The commissioner shall charge counties or other appropriate 
  1.12  jurisdictions for one-half the actual per diem cost of 
  1.13  confinement, excluding educational costs, of juveniles at the 
  1.14  Minnesota correctional facility-Red Wing and of juvenile females 
  1.15  committed to the commissioner of corrections.  This charge 
  1.16  applies to both counties that participate in the Community 
  1.17  Corrections Act and those that do not.  The commissioner shall 
  1.18  annually determine costs, making necessary adjustments to 
  1.19  reflect the actual costs of confinement.  All money received 
  1.20  under this section must be deposited in the state treasury and 
  1.21  credited to the general fund.  The department of corrections 
  1.22  shall be responsible for the other half of the per diem cost of 
  1.23  confinement described in this section.
