A bill for an act
relating to landlord tenant law; requiring landlords to provide tenants with
information on voter registration; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota
Statutes, chapters 201; 504B.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

FOR LANDLORDS.

new text begin The secretary of state shall prepare written materials for use by landlords as required by
section 504B.182. The materials must, at a minimum, contain information on the process
for registering to vote or updating an existing registration and on locating the polling place
for the precinct in which the tenant resides. The materials must be clearly posted and available
for download from the secretary of state's Web site. The materials must be reviewed by the
secretary at least annually and updated as necessary to reflect current laws and procedures.

Sec. 2.

new text begin [504B.182] LANDLORD TO PROVIDE INFORMATIONAL MATERIALS
ON VOTER REGISTRATION.

new text begin No more than 30 days after a lease is entered into, a landlord must provide each tenant
who is 18 years of age or older at the time of first occupancy, written information on voting
in Minnesota, including the process for registering to vote and locating the polling place
for the precinct in which the tenant resides. The form and content of the information shall
be prescribed and made available by the secretary of state, as provided in section 201.1612.
