A bill for an act
relating to education; requiring school districts to give priority to children of
district staff in the open enrollment lottery process; amending Minnesota Statutes
2014, section 124D.03, subdivision 5a.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2014, section 124D.03, subdivision 5a, is amended to
read:


Subd. 5a.

Lotteries.

If a school district has more applications than available seats at
a specific grade level, it must hold an impartial lottery following the January 15 deadline
to determine which students will receive seats. Siblings of currently enrolled students deleted text begin anddeleted text end new text begin ,

lottery must be established in school district policy, approved by the school board, and
