A bill for an act
relating to veterans affairs; establishing a grant program for eligible survivors
of certain veterans; appropriating money; proposing coding for new law in
Minnesota Statutes, chapter 197.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [197.69] VETERAN'S SURVIVOR GRANT PROGRAM.

new text begin The commissioner of veterans affairs shall establish a grant program to provide
assistance to an eligible surviving spouse of a veteran. A surviving spouse is eligible
for assistance through this grant program if the spouse was married to a veteran who
died prior to completing the forms required to provide for ongoing survivor benefits.
An eligible spouse must apply for assistance to the commissioner as required by the
commissioner, according to the timelines established and providing all necessary
information as determined by the commissioner.

Sec. 2. new text begin APPROPRIATION; VETERAN'S SURVIVOR GRANT PROGRAM.

new text begin $....... is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of Veterans Affairs
for fiscal year 2013 for the veteran's survivor grant program under Minnesota Statutes,
section 197.69. The amount of this appropriation is added to the base for each fiscal
year, beginning in fiscal year 2014.
