A bill for an act
relating to health; requiring the commissioner of health to provide grants for
prescription drug deactivation and disposal; appropriating money.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin GRANTS FOR DRUG DEACTIVATION AND DISPOSAL;
APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $500,000 in fiscal year 2018 and $500,000 in fiscal year 2019 are appropriated from the
general fund to the commissioner of health to provide grants to pharmacists and other
prescription drug dispensers, local public health and human services agencies, local law
enforcement, health care providers, and other entities to purchase omnidegradable, at-home
prescription drug deactivation and disposal products to assist the public in the disposal of
prescription drugs in a safe, environmentally sound manner. A grant recipient must provide
these deactivation and disposal products free of charge to members of the public.
