  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to health; regulating coverages; requiring 
  1.3             certain cancer screening and healing touch coverage; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 62A.30, 
  1.5             subdivision 2; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.6             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 62Q. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 62A.30, 
  1.9   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 2.  [REQUIRED COVERAGE.] Every policy, plan, 
  1.11  certificate, or contract referred to in subdivision 1 issued or 
  1.12  renewed after August 1, 1988, that provides coverage to a 
  1.13  Minnesota resident must provide coverage for routine screening 
  1.14  procedures for cancer, including mammograms, CA 125 blood test 
  1.15  screening for ovarian cancer, and pap smears, when ordered or 
  1.16  provided by a physician in accordance with the standard practice 
  1.17  of medicine. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [62Q.522] [HEALING TOUCH COVERAGE.] 
  1.19     A health plan must cover healing touch therapy performed by 
  1.20  certified practitioners.  
  1.21     This coverage is subject to any deductible, coinsurance, 
  1.22  copayment or other limitation or coverage applicable to other 
  1.23  coverages under the plan.  
  1.24     For purposes of this section, "health plan" includes 
  1.25  coverage that is excluded under section 62A.011, subdivision 3, 
  1.26  clauses (7) and (10). 
  2.1      Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE; APPLICATION.] 
  2.2      Sections 1 and 2 are effective August 1, 2000, and apply to 
  2.3   policies, plans, certificates, and contracts issued or renewed 
  2.4   on or after that date to provide coverage to Minnesota residents.
