  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to natural resources; modifying state park 
  1.3             fees; requiring state campsites to remain open as 
  1.4             scheduled; requiring a report; amending Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes 2000, section 85.055, subdivision 1; 
  1.6             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.7             chapter 85. 
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 85.055, 
  1.10  subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.11     Subdivision 1.  [FEES.] The fee for state park permits for: 
  1.12     (1) an annual use of state parks is $20 $30; 
  1.13     (2) a second vehicle state park permit is $15 $20; 
  1.14     (3) a state park permit valid up to two days is $4 $6; 
  1.15     (4) a daily vehicle state park permit for groups is $2 $4; 
  1.16     (5) an employee's state park permit is without charge; and 
  1.17     (6) a state park permit for handicapped persons under 
  1.18  section 85.053, subdivision 7, clauses (1) and (2), is $12 $15.  
  1.19     The fees specified in this subdivision include any sales 
  1.20  tax required by state law. 
  1.21     Sec. 2.  [85.056] [CAMPING FACILITIES TO REMAIN OPEN.] 
  1.22     Unless authorized by law, a state park must not close its 
  1.23  camping facility earlier in the year or open the facility later 
  1.24  than is ordinarily scheduled. 
  1.25     Sec. 3.  [REPORT REQUIRED.] 
  1.26     By November 1, 2002, the parks and recreation division of 
  2.1   the department of natural resources shall report to the 
  2.2   legislature with recommendations for legislative and 
  2.3   departmental changes to provide a higher level of funding for 
  2.4   state park operations from user fees.
