  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to utilities; providing that costs for 
  1.3             relocating utility facilities due to light rail 
  1.4             construction be paid by the state; amending Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes 1998, section 216B.16, by adding a 
  1.6             subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 216B.16, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 17.  [EXPENSE RELATED TO LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT.] The 
  1.11  commissioner of transportation shall include in the department's 
  1.12  budget for total light rail project costs all nonbetterment 
  1.13  costs associated with relocating facilities used for providing 
  1.14  public utility service that are incurred due to light rail 
  1.15  construction. Public utilities required to relocate those 
  1.16  facilities are entitled to reimbursement from the state for the 
  1.17  nonbetterment costs of the relocation.
