  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to higher education; directing the board of 
  1.3             trustees of the Minnesota state colleges and 
  1.4             universities and requesting the board of regents of 
  1.5             the University of Minnesota to adopt a policy 
  1.6             requiring a year of study abroad for certain students. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [FOREIGN LANGUAGE MAJOR; STUDY ABROAD.] 
  1.9      The board of trustees of the Minnesota state colleges and 
  1.10  universities shall adopt a policy providing that schools of 
  1.11  education require a year of study abroad as part of the 
  1.12  curriculum for students who are preparing to become licensed 
  1.13  teachers of foreign language in Minnesota elementary and 
  1.14  secondary schools.  The board of regents of the University of 
  1.15  Minnesota is requested to adopt the same policy.
