A bill for an act
relating to transportation; providing for student driver signs on motor vehicles;
amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, sections 171.06, by adding a subdivision;
171.0705, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 171.06, is amended by adding a
subdivision to read:

new text begin As part of issuance of an instruction permit, the
commissioner shall distribute a summary information sheet on novice driver signs that
contains the information required to be included in the driver's manual under section
171.0705, subdivision 11.

Sec. 2.

Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 171.0705, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin The commissioner shall include in
each edition of the driver's manual a section that recommends use of temporary signage
on vehicles being operated by a novice driver, including suggested design, placement,
times of use, and sign verbiage.

new text begin This section is effective August 1, 2014, and applies to
driver's manuals published on or after that date.
