  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to higher education; appropriating money to 
  1.3             the higher education services office for a grant to 
  1.4             the united family medicine residency program.  
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.7      $....... in fiscal year 2002 and $....... in fiscal year 
  1.8   2003 are appropriated from the general fund to the higher 
  1.9   education services office for a grant to the united family 
  1.10  medicine residency program.  This appropriation shall be used to 
  1.11  support 18 resident physicians each year in family practice at 
  1.12  united family medicine residency programs and shall prepare 
  1.13  doctors to practice family care medicine in underserved rural 
  1.14  and urban areas of the state.  It is intended that this program 
  1.15  will improve health care in underserved communities, provide 
  1.16  affordable access to appropriate medical care, and manage the 
  1.17  treatment of patients in a more cost-effective manner.
