  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to insurance; requiring coverage for oral 
  1.3             language interpreter services; proposing coding for 
  1.4             new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 62Q. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [62Q.527] [LANGUAGE INTERPRETER SERVICES.] 
  1.7      Subdivision 1.  [SCOPE OF COVERAGE.] For purposes of this 
  1.8   section, "health plan" has the meaning given in section 62Q.01, 
  1.9   subdivision 3, but includes the coverages described in section 
  1.10  62A.011, subdivision 3, clauses (6), (7), and (10).  
  1.11     Subd. 2.  [REQUIRED COVERAGE.] Any health plan issued or 
  1.12  renewed in this state must provide oral language interpreter 
  1.13  services to any enrollee with limited English proficiency when 
  1.14  the enrollee is receiving a direct, person-to-person health care 
  1.15  service that is covered by the enrollee's health plan.  
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.17     Section 1 is effective for any health plan issued or 
  1.18  renewed to provide coverage to a Minnesota resident on or after 
  1.19  August 1, 2001.
