A bill for an act
relating to employment; appropriating money for a grant to a Southeast Asian
youth job skills development program.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $200,000 in fiscal year 2010 and $200,000 in fiscal year 2011 are appropriated from
the work force development fund to the commissioner of employment and economic
development for a grant to the Southeast Asian Youth Collaborative to provide intensive
employment training to prepare Southeast Asian youth to enter the workforce. The
Southeast Asian Youth Collaborative must administer a statewide project of youth job
skills development for Southeast Asian youth. The four members of the collaborative
shall recruit, educate, train, and assist youth in job seeking skills, knowledge of careers,
and orientation to the workplace and job sites through mentoring and coaching. For
purposes of this section, "Southeast Asian Youth Collaborative" means a collaborative
based in Hennepin County with the following members: Lao Advancement of America,
formerly known as Lao PTA; the Southeast Asian Community Council (SEACC); United
Cambodian Association (UCAM); and Vietnamese Social Services. Lao Advancement of
America is the fiscal agent for the collaborative.
