  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [62A.271] [PREADOPTION COVERAGE.] 
  1.7      A health carrier must not deny coverage for a newborn 
  1.8   infant on the basis that the newborn infant will be or has been 
  1.9   adopted or placed for adoption, provided that this section does 
  1.10  not require coverage of health care services provided after 
  1.11  placement for adoption. 
  1.12     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE; APPLICATION.] 
  1.13     Section 1 is effective August 1, 2001, and applies to 
  1.14  coverage issued or renewed to Minnesota residents on or after 
  1.15  that date.
