A bill for an act
relating to local government; requiring the state
auditor to study and report on the feasibility of
consolidating counties or altering county boundaries
in central Minnesota.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin STUDY ON CONSOLIDATING COUNTIES OR ALTERING
COUNTY BOUNDARIES IN CENTRAL MINNESOTA.

new text begin The state auditor shall study the feasibility, costs, and
benefits of consolidating or altering county boundaries in
central Minnesota. As part of the study, the state auditor
shall consider conforming county boundaries to other existing
organizational boundaries, including city boundaries, and shall
consider the economic implications that may result from the
consolidation or boundary changes. The state auditor shall
consider specific proposals made in legislation introduced in
the last ten years, as well as proposals from potentially
affected governmental units and other interested persons and
organizations.
