  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to telecommunications; requiring provision of 
  1.3             a cable service consumer complaint telephone number; 
  1.4             authorizing a penalty; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 238. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [238.115] [CABLE PROVIDER COMPLAINTS.] 
  1.8      A cable communications company holding a franchise to 
  1.9   provide cable communications services in any area of this state 
  1.10  must immediately provide a consumer complaint telephone number 
  1.11  to any person who calls the company or its agent and asks for a 
  1.12  consumer complaint number.  The number provided must be the 
  1.13  telephone number of a person or agency that is unaffiliated with 
  1.14  the cable communications company and that is organized to 
  1.15  provide assistance to complaining consumers.  A municipality 
  1.16  that grants a franchise to a cable communications company may 
  1.17  impose a fine of up to $500 for each violation of this section.
